Well after being told that I was to start Enbrel this Monday, I'm now on Humira and had my first epipen injection today. The nurse on Monday told me that as she's not had the training for Enbrel she could not give it to me and then said "why are you on Enbrel your consultant said you're to be on Humira, come back on Wednesday."

What a palaver, I now have a bag of Enbrel sitting in my garden in a cool bag - hundreds of pounds down the drain!

Gosh didn't know that Humira and Enbrel costs around £17000.00 a year per patient, but hey "I'm worth it"ThumpUp

Keep your fingers crossed for me that it works and that my liver goes back to normalThumpUp

Love,

Barbara

I have to ask Barbara.......why is the enbrel in a coolbag in your garden?
It seems very strange that they gave you enbrel and then started you on humira .
Don't they use the Healthcare at Home people? They deliver the stuff to your home and a nurse comes out to you to show you haw to inject.
Oh well, at least you've started on anti-tnf and should see an improvement before long.
Fingers crossed that this is THE drug for you.

Love, Doreen xx

Oooh Barbara this sounds wierd. Shouldn't they have checked with the rheumy team first? I must confess that when they asked me to think about Anti TNFs - I thought I would prefer Humira to Enbrel (don't really know why Blushing ). Are you going to phone and let them know? Might be fate saying this is the one for you Blink .

Doreen because I'm a greedy so-and-so and my fridge is always full, so no room for Enbrel especially for a drug I'm not meant to be taking; hence the reason why it's in a cool bag in my garden as it has to be kept below 8 degrees. The doctor made out a prescription for me to collect from the pharmacy which I duly did, and was then told to come back on Monday and the nurse would show me how to inject with the syringe. Homecare at home were then meant to be delivering the next batch. I was not to know that they were going to give 6 weeks worth of the stuff and shouldn't be having itConfused

Must say Julie I agree with you, and now happy to be on Humira as it seems less complicated using an epipen and administering it fortnightly as opposed to twice weekly with the Enbrel. I've got an epipen in the fridge and will stab myself again in 2 weeks time, and hopefully by then everything with Homecare at Home will be sorted out and will deliver the next patch along with a sharps disposal container. I guess the doctor that I saw at the clinic along with the nurse meant well and wanted to get me started ASAP as I had waited long enough already and was flaring badly when I saw them.

Love,

Barbara

Glad you've got started on it quickly Barbara.
I like the humira because it's only one injection every two weeks, the only thing is remembering when it's due!
Good luck with it.

Good luck with the humira, Barbara - I hope it works well for you. I always mark my nest injection down on the calendar, plus a note of which side of me I`m stabbing!
